How we make money
No mystery, no legalese fog. Here's exactly how My Huckleberry Life keeps the lights on — and the rule that keeps us honest while we do it.
The short version (FTC disclosure)
My Huckleberry Life contains affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission — at no extra cost to you. We only earn on some brands, we earn different amounts on different brands, and none of that ever changes our verdict. We name the winner even when it pays us less, and we recommend brands that pay us nothing at all.
What an affiliate link is, in plain English
When we link to a medical alert brand, that link sometimes carries a little tracking code. If you buy after clicking it, the company pays us a referral commission for sending you their way. You pay the same price you'd pay otherwise — the commission comes out of the company's pocket, not yours. That's it. It's the same arrangement behind most product-review sites; the difference is whether they tell you the truth about how it affects their picks.
Our promise: commissions never change the verdict
This is the whole reason My Huckleberry Life exists, so I'll say it as plainly as I can:
- We name the honest winner on every point, even when a lower-paying brand is the better pick.
- We name at least one real limitation in every review, including for brands that pay us.
- We list brands that pay us nothing right alongside the ones that do. For example, Life Alert has no public affiliate program we could find and pays us nothing — and we still cover it (and we still tell you about its three-year contract).
- If we ever couldn't recommend a brand honestly, no commission would make us do it.
The networks and programs we use
We participate in, or may participate in, the following affiliate networks and direct-to-brand programs. Some of these partnerships are active and some are pending approval — where a link isn't live yet, our written review still tells you everything, honest limitations included.
- Amazon Associates — for related home-safety products sold on Amazon.
- ShareASale — a network several senior-safety brands run their programs through.
- CJ Affiliate (Commission Junction) — another major network for consumer brands.
- AvantLink — the network Bay Alarm Medical and its GetSafe brand use, per third-party affiliate directories (affiliate roundup).
- FlexOffers — lists programs including MobileHelp and Connect America's Medical Alert (MobileHelp on FlexOffers).
- Direct-to-brand programs — some companies run their own, such as Medical Guardian, Connect America, and Lively.
Commission amounts vary widely from one brand to another — anywhere from a flat fee per sale to a percentage — which is exactly why we're careful to make sure the money never steers the recommendation.
Do we sell our own products?
We don't sell anything of our own — no paid kits, no consults, no memberships. Reading the site is always free, and affiliate commissions are the only way we earn.
